1940年5月，荷兰鹿特丹。荷兰小伙子文森特和弟弟是一家酒店服务生，同时文森特还是一位业余拳击手。5月初的一天，德国富商的女儿伊娃来到酒店与德国实业家德克准备结婚，一天正在送面包的文森特在街上邂逅了伊娃，正当文森特在桥边为伊娃拍照时，正巧遇上荷兰士兵阻击入侵的纳粹士兵，两人慌不择路逃进了动物园的大象馆……这以后很快坠入了爱河...1940年5月，荷兰鹿特丹。荷兰小伙子文森特和弟弟是一家酒店服务生，同时文森特还是一位业余拳击手。5月初的一天，德国富商的女儿伊娃来到酒店与德国实业家德克准备结婚，一天正在送面包的文森特在街上邂逅了伊娃，正当文森特在桥边为伊娃拍照时，正巧遇上荷兰士兵阻击入侵的纳粹士兵，两人慌不择路逃进了动物园的大象馆……这以后很快坠入了爱河...这引来了德克对文森特的极大敌意。5月14日，伊娃与德克正在教堂举行婚礼，德军的飞机开始了大轰炸，教堂和酒店成了一片废墟，文森特奋力地救出了伊娃，可德克举着手枪站在了面前，枪响了，文森特的肩膀受伤，伊娃不顾一切地冲上去抢过了手枪，就在这时，一场意外的爆炸发生了。伊娃的吻，成了文森特长久的回忆……
