玉帝之小女兒七仙女（方盈），厭倦天庭刻板生活，不惜冒犯天規，降臨人間；少年董永（凌波）賣身傳員外家，為奴三載，以埋父骨；董永之孝心，感動了七仙女，便幻成村姑，藉土地神之助，說服董永與其結成夫婦，並相偕到傳家上工，七仙女在六位仙姐下凡暗助下，為董永縮減償還工作日，眾仙女幫助紡織錦布，發揮仙術，百日完工；回復自由後，二人回董永故家，但愉快的凡間生活能持續多久呢？玉帝之小女兒七仙女（方盈），厭倦天庭刻板生活，不惜冒犯天規，降臨人間；少年董永（凌波）賣身傳員外家，為奴三載，以埋父骨；董永之孝心，感動了七仙女，便幻成村姑，藉土地神之助，說服董永與其結成夫婦，並相偕到傳家上工，七仙女在六位仙姐下凡暗助下，為董永縮減償還工作日，眾仙女幫助紡織錦布，發揮仙術，百日完工；回復自由後，二人回董永故家，但愉快的凡間生活能持續多久呢？玉帝得知小女兒私自下凡的消息後，天庭盛怒，命雷神逼其返回天宮，七仙女與董永二人在槐樹下無奈分離，情節悲痛，頗為感人。 這部邵氏版《七仙女》原本由李翰祥執導，拍攝中途李翰祥突然脫離邵氏，到台灣另組國聯影片公司，李翰祥動用大堆頭明星拍《七仙女》，邵氏不甘示弱，也沿用李翰祥留下的劇本拍同名同戲，在向法庭申請禁製令的同時，將十個攝影棚都搭了同一部戲的佈景，由陳一新和何夢華聯合導演，亞洲影后凌波反串男角與方盈合演情侶。1963年12月，兩部《七仙女》在台灣同時上映，但李版因只有江青、鈕芳雨擔綱，氣勢較邵氏版為弱而票房落敗。而李版《七仙女》要等官非和解才在香港上映。
